About the role
The Senior Process Engineer will play a critical role in the design and delivery of our demonstration scale chemical recycling plant in the Netherlands. Based on the Brightlands Chemelot Campus, Limburg, The Netherlands, with English as the working language, you will work with diverse teams both internally and externally via third-party engineers throughout the design life cycle. This role will take learnings from the Pilot Plant to implement our first-of-a-kind demonstration facility, to deliver a fully operational plant. The role has the opportunity to take ownership of the process engineering function at Itero, and will require both office and practical skills to bring the plant from detailed design through to completion of commissioning.
As part of a close-knit team, you will have a proactive attitude to fulfilling company objectives and be able to apply yourself to a wide range of tasks, with the opportunity to shape company culture and strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the process engineering function in the detailed design of Itero’s Brightlands plant.
Ensure all designs meet project specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
Interface with other engineering disciplines (e.g., mechanical, electrical) to ensure proper integration and functionality.
Check, develop and maintain project documentation, including design basis reports, operating procedures, and commissioning plans.
Manage and provide technical direction to third-party consulting engineers supporting the process engineering aspects of the project.
Review and approve all relevant process engineering documentation, including calculations, specifications, and reports, from internal and external sources.
Work collaboratively with vendors and suppliers to select and procure process equipment.
Oversee the commissioning process, including loop checking, performance testing, and troubleshooting.
Provide technical support to operations personnel during plant start-up and ensure a smooth handover.
Provide continued support during continued operation after commissioning of the Brightlands plant.
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in the process design and operation.
Desired Qualities
Previous experience with pyrolysis is beneficial, but not essential.
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
Multiple years of experience in process engineering, with a strong focus on detailed design and commissioning of chemical plants.
In-depth knowledge of process engineering principles.
Excellent understanding of safety standards and regulations applicable to chemical plants.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving engineering issues.
Experience delivering first of a kind plants or pilot plants is beneficial.
Experience taking a project through detailed design and commissioning.
Collaborative mindset with strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent planning and organizational skills to ensure project milestones are met on time and within budget.
Willingness to travel internationally regularly.
